Weybread Fisheries
25th of April 2024 – Duration 24 hours
Who Went
A short trip for Shane and Craig this time as Jason had his day job getting in the way. It was a good session at a truly lovely venue but we were sadly lax on taking as many pictures as we normally would have. We didn’t have Jay there to crack the whip.
We arrived at 7 am give or take and we wasted no time getting set up.
The Weather
In true British tradition the weather stank for the most part with a very cold night at only 1 degree and to be truthful it felt a lot colder than that.
In the early hours you could see the fog coming in over the water like ghosts. It looked really cool but to be honest I was just cold so I wanted to get back to sleep.
During the day though it wasn’t too bad. It was a mix of rain intermingled with some lovely sunlight in short spells but, as soon as the sun faded you really felt the cold – then again, it is April.
The Fishing
Like a football match it was a tale of two halves really. Shane sadly didn’t land anything despite getting the choice of swim. He had the spot with all the features above ground and some good looking places to target but sadly he only managed some interest with a few knocks.
We don’t think the weather helped much but Craig had a bit of a better run with his first fish coming in just after 5 pm and it was a very welcome one. Finally nudging his PB higher to 24 1/4 lbs with a lovely mirror!
It was funny as this came as Shane was at the shop of all things and thankfully another angler holidaying in the cabins came to help net it. He was a lovely chap who knew the venue well and as he had visited it a few times. He had a 29 1/2 lb himself and he was only on a day session breaking his PB as well!
The one Craig had put up very little fight to be honest and was caught on a Crafty Catcher, Plumb and Berry Boillie. This is a really nice bait and seems to be doing the business in that awkward time where you are unsure if the carp have moved from winter to summer baits. This has really been successful for us landing a boatload of fish recently at Suffolk Water Park.
Carp Caught
3 Common Carp at 24 1/4 a 23 lb one and a smaller one
Weybread Carp Fisheries – The Venue
Weybread Carp Fisheries is a small lake in Diss in Suffolk. What it lacks in size it makes up for in beauty and the stock of fish is excellent.
It has one lake with a good head of 20 lb plus carp (over 100) and it also has 20 x 30 lb+ ones as well so a lovely stock with some real fat fish on show.
It has some lovely green water and mature and picturesque banks. Honestly this place looks lovely. It has 5 single pegs and 2 double pegs on an island.
The ground is fairly hardy with good parking on site as well. The toilet and washrooms are good and drinking water is available on site.
The people we met were friendly and happy to share info about the lake and it is 100% a venue we are going to visit more often.
Another good point is you can use 3 rods per swim if you have the right licence which was nice.
Honestly, nice fish and a truly beautiful venue. If you fish swim 4 or 5 (the island doubles) make sure you bring a barrow – we didn’t and that was our biggest issue so lesson learned. It’s further than it looks on the map.
We also didn’t see any Bream and the Crayfish which are there didn’t really cause us any harm. We caught on Mainline IB and Crafty Catcher Plumb and Berry.
Below is our 23lb nighttime visitor – another lovely fish just pictured at an odd angle!
